Dependencies allow you to connect tasks together so that if there are date changes to one task, it will either automatically update the future task or at least give you notice to do so manually.

The arrows below in gantt are dependency lines.

Currently, LB Geniebelt only supports Finish to Start dependencies.

Creating a Dependency

To create a dependency, hover the mouse over the predecessor task.

Then click on the top-right icon and drag the mouse to the successor task you would like to create the dependency to.

Alternatively, you can first hover over the successor task and then click the top-left icon and drag the mouse to the predecessor task.

When you first create a dependency, the successor tasks’ start date will automatically change to the next working day after the predecessor, the scheduling mode will automatically change to automatic, and the lag time will be set to 0 days.

To edit the lag time or delete a dependency, click on the dependency line on the Gantt, and. Within this side panel you can also delete the dependency.

To edit the scheduling mode of a task, click on the menu of task in the right hand side panel and choose the mode.

Tasks can have more than one dependency and in either directions.

Important:

A task on automatic scheduling mode will change to manual mode if you edit its start date.

- A task that is on manual mode and has a progress reported cannot be changed to automatic.

Scheduling Mode

The scheduling mode determines if a task with a dependency will move automatically or not when the predecessor task is updated.

We have two scheduling modes: Automatic and Manual

Automatic scheduling: when a predecessor’s end date changes, the successor tasks’ start date will automatically change accordingly, based on the lag time.

Manual scheduling: when a predecessor’s end date changes, the successor tasks’ start date will not change automatically.

There is a small difference in how the task bars look with either of these modes look on gantt:

To change the scheduling mode back to manual, go to the menu of the task.

Lag time

The lag time is the number of days that a successors start date should occur after the end date of the predecessor. Lag time only works when the successors scheduling mode is Automatic.

Importing Dependencies

When importing projects from MSP, Asta and Primavera, LB Geniebelt maintains Finish to Start dependencies. Any other type of Dependency will be converted into Finish to Start dependencies. All tasks are scheduled manually when importing, regardless of the status upon import.

Dependencies on Mobile

You cannot edit dependencies on mobile.

Hide Dependencies

On large projects, the number dependencies can be very high and it could create numerous lines throughout the project, blocking the view of the project. Therefore, within the toolbar, we give you the option to hide the Dependency lines from view.
