What are Conditional Rules ?

Conditional rules (also called visibility conditions) define whether a question or a section should be displayed based on previous answers.
They make your forms dynamic, helping users focus only on the relevant content.

Example:

If a user answers “Yes” to “Has the communication service been notified?”, the next question “Which service?” will automatically appear.

Where to Find Conditional Rules

Conditional rules are set up directly in the Form Template Builder interface:

  1. Open a form template (either create a new one or edit a draft)

  2. Select the question or section where you want to apply a condition.

  3. In the right-hand panel, you’ll see the “Add or edit visibility conditions” button.

  4. Define your visibility condition in the pop-up window.

You can add as many conditions as needed to tailor how your form behaves.

How to Create a Conditional Rule

Click Add/edit visibility rule on the question that should be shown if the condition applies, to open the configuration window, then:

  1. In the If section dropdown, choose the section containing your trigger question.

  2. Select the question that will determine visibility.

  3. Define the answer that should trigger the next question or section to appear.

  4. Confirm by clicking Update rules.

You can add or remove multiple conditions using the + or × icons.

Note : Once applied, a rule is indicated by a green tag:
“Visibility rule applied : This question is displayed only under certain conditions - click to see more”

When a rule is active on a row, you’ll see a green badge: “Visibility rule applied”.

Click it (or the button) anytime to view or edit the rule

Rule position and dependencies

A visibility rule only works when the trigger question or section comes before the question or section it controls.
If the trigger is moved below the dependent question or section, the rule will no longer be valid and an error message will appear.
To fix it, move the trigger back above or remove the invalid rule.

Which question types support Conditional Rules

Conditional rules can only be applied to specific question types that have predefined answer values:

  • Single choice text (PredefinedString)

  • Multiple choice (MultipleChoice)

  • Number (PredefinedNumber)

Rules will not work for free text, date, or file upload questions, as these do not have predefined answers.

Error handling (incomplete rules)

If any part of a rule is left empty (e.g., you didn’t select the triggering answer), you’ll get a red warning:

“Please select values for all rules or remove empty rules.”

Complete the missing fields or remove the incomplete rule to save.

What’s changed vs the old version

The logic of conditionals is the same as before; only the creation flow changed. Everything is now configured directly in the web builder with the Add/edit visibility rule module.
